Our name is derived from the German expression zeitgeist, literally translated as "time ghost", which figuratively means the "spirit of the time".  Internet video technology has finally matured and come into its own. We feel that internet video represents a seismic shift in our industry that will transform not just websites, but how we experience media overall.  As such, Internet video really has become the "spirit of our times".

As we push the boundaries of the technology with longer formats and higher resolutions, we are beginning to see file sizes and bandwidth throughput rates that were unheard of 12 years ago when we started in the internet industry.  A recent study by Netcraft, an Internet monitoring company that has tracked Web growth since 1995, announced that there are 100 million websites on the internet today.  Some handle millions of visits a day while some look like they haven't been updated since 1994, but the fact is there is a tremendous amount information available to us.

So we are beginning to wonder: how much digital information is really out there?  What is the size of our collective digital culture when you include all the websites, blogs, MP3's, video, PDF's, etc on a daily basis? What would you call that measurement?  Our answer: the zeitbyte.

Let's walk thru how digital information is measured:

• bit - The computer term "bit" comes from the phrase "Binary DigIT". A bit is a single digit number in base-2 (a zero or a one) and is the smallest unit of computer data.
• byte - it takes eight bits to make one byte.
• kilobyte - A kilobyte is 2 to the 10th power, or 1,024 bytes.
• megabyte - A megabyte is 1024 kilobytes or 1,048,576 bytes.
• gigabyte - A gigabyte is 1024 megabytes
• terabyte - a terabyte is 1024 gigabytes
• petabyte - a petabyte is 1024 terabytes
• exabyte- a exabyte is 1024 petabytes
• zettabyte- a zettabyte is 1024 exabytes
• yottabyte- a yottabyte is 1024 zettabytes
